“Her voice is like the ev'ning thrush,
That sings on Cessnock banks unseen,
While his mate sits nestling in the bush;
An' she has twa sparkling roguish een.”

“I hope she will not then desert me, I may even then, learn to be, if not happy, at least easy, and south a sang to sooth my misy”

Reviews:

" I am a sentimental sawney*. Last week in the salon of Duff House, when Pandy Arthur sang “Ae Fond Kiss” the hairs on the back of my head stood on end, and I felt like a young poet in all the pangs of blighted love.

One doesn’t go expecting to be thrilled to the core of one’s being. Staid old gentlemen find a rational pleasure in classical music and in traditional well-trained singers and well-played instruments. Very loud music and fiercely insistent rhythms are more popular today, and seem to offer a much more immediate emotional kick. But the artistry that took years to perfect sometimes lifts you from quiet enjoyment to rapture, and these moments stay with us."

Dr Alistair Mason , Chairman of The friends of Duff House February 2008

“I too was much taken with that item but the whole evening was quite exceptional.”
